Physician Referral Information

Due to liability issues, we cannot attest to the professional qualifications or experience of specific physicians, nor can we make actual recommendations.

The easiest way to find a rheumatologist near you is through the rheumatology website.  Licensed rheumatologists throughout California are listed by the communities where they practice.  The following link will take you directly to the California listings:

Once you have a list of physicians, seek out information from resources such as other lupus patients, hospital physician referral services and online sources.  Local support groups are a great place to talk to other lupus patients and discover what resources are available for lupus patients in your area.

The following questions may help you determine what is most important to you when choosing a health care provider.

  • Will they accept your insurance? If not are they willing to see patients without insurance and what are the rates for cash payment?
  • Is the practice is open – are they taking new patients?
  • If it is a group practice, how accessible are the physicians?
  • Is the office located nearby?  Is there after hours coverage?
  • What percentage/number of patients in their practice have lupus?

After your first appointment, these questions will help you determine whether it is a good fit.

  • Do you feel comfortable talking to the provider?
  • Do you feel he/she listened to you?
  • Was the office staff polite and efficient?
